Weekly Task 1
Weekly Task 1
Yes, I have said, “I have my principles and a positive attitude toward my life”. I consider myself a self-disciplined person. In my opinion, people who do not have any value or principle will lead an aimless life. Therefore, I think one should find out some personal values as well as principles, and keep sticking to it.
I will think one who laughs at me for never skipping classes is ludicrous. From my point of view, students have an obligation to show up for every class. One reason is that this is a basic respect for teachers. The other reason is that this is a chance to learn being responsible.
The importance of critical thinking is stressed greatly nowadays. When I get information from people or mass media, I do not totally believe it. I sometimes do double check to make sure what I heard or saw is true when I have time. If my friend tells me that working as a part-time waiter in a fancy restaurant will get lots of money, I will seek others’ advice, take it for reference and finally make a decision.

Dear Glory,
回覆刪除I think have similar ideas as yours.
I always have my own principles to follow, and I think everyone should have own values to observe everything from different perspectives.
When someone laughs at me for never skipping classes, I would be a little bit angry at the time. Since we come to college mainly for acquiring knowledge, we may fall behind because of skipping classes. Perhaps, many people would say that the class is boring or something, but why do you choose this course? Anyway, I think college students should responsible for own behaviors.
As a college student, I know that my thinking mode is getting changed through these years learning in university. The most obvious change between the education of university and education of senior high school is the way in learning. For senior high school students, they always accept teachers’ disciplines, and hardly wonder even doubt what they have learned. However, in college, professors always ask us to think and talk self-opinion. Some courses are designed to inspire our critical thinking ability. Nevertheless, it is still not enough to cultivate complete critical thinking ability. We students are close to our peers and friends; as a result, we are easily influenced by them. We tend to accept others’ concepts immediately without thinking, so I think it is very important to hold self value and principle.
Dear Lily,
回覆刪除I agree with you on your second paragraph of the comment. To tell the truth, I sometimes wondered what I learned from lectures when being a high school student. Sometimes, I thought I learned in order to get good grades instead of enjoying the pleasure of learning. Moreover, I usually believed what teachers said and followed their instructions as well as suggestions without thinking. Therefore, I seldom had a chance to express my opinions and inner thoughts when learning.
However, the ways I learn in university is very different. Just as you said, “In college, professors always ask us to think and talk self-opinion. Some courses are designed to inspire our critical thinking ability.” I think it is time to organize my own ideas and cultivate the ability of critical thinking now. Although learning with new methods is not a piece of cake, I will try my best to overcome difficulties and improve my English and Chinese proficiency.
Dear Glory,
回覆刪除It’s true that the way we have been taught in the senior high school is totally different from in college. As a college student, we have to motivate ourselves to read and cultivate self-awareness. There are few professors in colleges pushing us as frequently as our senior high school teachers. Moreover, I believe that you can make a quick progress both on your English and Chinese abilities due to you are a hardworking and self-motivated student. Hang in there!
Dear Lily,
回覆刪除What a sweet girl you are! :)
Thank you for your praise and encouragement.
Both my English and Chinese proficiency leave a lot to be desired. Actually, I am afraid that my Chinese ability will get worse since I spend more time studying English than Chinese! I think I should learn how to strike a balance between these two languages when I am learning new things during my school life. By the way, the learning of French is also important for me since I choose French as my second foreign language. I believe that each language has its difficult parts, so it is always not easy for people to have a good command of a language, including their mother tongue. Therefore, no matter how difficult the process of learning is, just keeping learning and overcoming every challenge. Your effort will pay off! Keep going!
Yours truly,
Glory
