1. Based on your preference, what kind of classroom activity do you like most and which one do you like the least?
I prefer activities which are concerning “watching”. Sometimes, it is relaxing and refreshing to learn by watching related videos, movies, etc. On the other hand, I am not good at communicating with others and voicing my opinions; thus, I like “discussion” the least.
2. Can you recall some very fun activity you experienced recently in class? Please describe it.
Last month, Dr. Gina gave our class a task in the computer classroom: choosing a funny video and cooperating with group members to create intriguing lines which correspond to the video. Through this activity, I first learned how to operate the software “Movie Maker”. Although it is not easy to finish the task, I really enjoyed this fun activity.
3. When encountering some kind of difficult knowledge, do you have any strategies to process it?
First, I usually try to find out my problems of learning, including my attitude toward learning and methods of learning. Then, I ask teachers and classmates for help. Moreover, some reference books help me a lot when I have difficulties understanding and absorbing new information.
4. Based on your responses to Q1, Q2, and Q3, can you tell the type of learner you are? Why?
Sometimes, I think I am studious. I usually spare no effort to perfect all the assignments, although the results or the scores are not necessarily good or excellent as I expect. I think I will keep improving my drawbacks and maintain a positive attitude.

Dear Glory,
回覆刪除I love the “watching” most, too. It is intriguing to get into the scene when we watch a video, and we can train our listening at the same time. For me, I like “reflection” the least, since the process of reflection is quite boring and takes time. In this semester, we had a class activity about working on our own comic strip in the junior composition and conversation class. Dr. Doris Shih asked us to divide into groups then create a comic strip on our own. We had to choose characters, create a plot, and then present our comic strip in front of classmates in the end of the class. It is very funny that everyone had to brainstorm and create in a few minutes. Besides, after hearing every group’s sharing, I found everyone has the potential to be a fiction writer.
From my point of view, when encountering difficult knowledge, asking teachers and classmates for help is a good way. Other than that, I also search for some information on-line. I believe that you are a studious learner due to you are hardworking and diligent. When it comes to my learning attitude, I think it depends on how much I love the subject. For example, I love linguistics, so I enjoy reading and doing assignments related to linguistics without complaint. Nevertheless, I think I have to correct this learning habit because I know there are many interesting and useful courses worthy of learning for me.
Dear Lily,
回覆刪除Frankly speaking, I consider “reflection” a good way to learn. For me, “introspection” helps me find out some obvious problems and learn from the mistakes. In fact, when I am filling out “Self-evaluation sheet”, I almost have no idea how to evaluate my academic performance in the course. If I evaluate myself by using my criterion, I will not be satisfied with my performance because I usually set a high goal. If you have similar experiences of evaluating yourself, feel free to share with me.
It is amazing that we have something in common when it comes to learning attitude. Could I say we are “picky” about the subjects? You mention your learning attitude is based on how much you love the subject. Actually, I think it is evitable for students to cultivate this habit. It is likely that students feel a sense of achievement and gain more confidence, so they tend to focus on certain subjects. I am no exception. However, I change my mind after I understand a saying, “Love what you do and do what you love.” We students usually put “doing what you love” into practice and ignore the importance of “loving what you do.” Sometimes, I am afraid of doing what I never try simply due to the prejudice. To my surprise, after trying some new things, I gain lot of experience and take pleasure from them. Therefore, I think I should seize the opportunities when I have chances to explore new things in my life.
Finally, I believe you can correct your learning habit because you have already mentioned a great point -- there are many interesting and useful courses worthy of learning for you. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Glory
Dear Glory,
回覆刪除As for my own experience, I always evaluate my performance according to my progress. For example, my academic performance today is better than yesterday. It shows that I make a progress, and I proud of myself. I believe that you already make a huge progress in these months. Indeed, there is still something for us to improve. For example, when I evaluate my self-presentation, there are many perspectives for me to consider such as content, language, analysis and so on. There must be something I think I do quite well and there must be something I am not satisfied. You can give yourself higher score in the item which you feel you perform well beyond your imagination though it is not that excellent. Sometimes you need to encourage yourself then you will make a progress quickly.
Dear Lily,
回覆刪除The example you gave above is great. In my opinion, every one needs “motivation” and “encouragement” when doing something or after achieving goals. As for me, when I make a progress in learning, I feel delighted and confident; thus I have energy to keep going. On the other hand, when I make no progress in learning or make mistakes while learning, I feel disappointed, but later I look on the bright side and find ways to overcome difficulties. After all, as a saying goes “Failure is a stepping stone for success.”, we should not give up on count of failure.
Sincerely,
Glory
